EXCERPTS FROM PASTOR BERNARD'S NEW BOOK
THE MYSTERY WOMAN
“And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed: He shall bruise thy head, and thou shall bruise his heel.” Genesis 3:15
The above prophecy was given the moment man sold himself into the kingdom of darkness, under the ruler ship of Satan, the devil. In the midst of that hopeless situation God declared hope to man. He made known to man His redemptive plan. The plan to redeem man and restore him back to God was announced: A woman and her seed were ordained by God to carry out that assignment.
This woman was ordained to carry God’s blessing of hope to all the families of the earth. (Ref. Genesis 12:1-3). Because of her God-given assignment, this woman would become Satan’s number one enemy on earth. But the woman’s seed would conquer Satan, and destroy his kingdom and bring freedom to all mankind.
Now think about how important this woman is to the nations of this world – “the mother of our freedom.”
She was called to carry God’s blessing and hope for the nations. The hope of mankind was conceived in the womb of this woman.
Who is the woman? And who is her seed?
In prophetic symbols, a woman represents a nation or a city (Jeremiah 6:2; Revelation 17:18)
God in His infinite wisdom was to raise a nation through whom He would impregnate with His Word for her to carry that holy word till the time of delivery when the Word becomes flesh and dwells among men. That Holy Seed of God would come as the Saviour of the world, to save all men from the hands of Satan, the devil.
God sets His Plan in Motion:
The plan to restore man back to God was set in motion when Abraham was called by God to leave his country.
“Now the Lord had said unto Abraham, get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will show thee. And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great, and thou shalt be a blessing, and I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee, and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.” Genesis 12:1-3
When God called Abraham to get out of his country the first thing He had in mind was to create a new nation out of him. In other words, He called him in order to raise the ‘woman’ whose seed is the gift and the blessing to the nations; the hope of mankind.
How did Abraham become a nation?
“And I will make of thee a great nation.”
The nation Israel was not born in Egypt. The Jewish nation was born the very moment Jacob the son of Isaac was born. The birth of Jacob marked the beginning of the nation - Israel.
“This is the account of Abraham’s son Isaac.
Abraham became the father of Isaac, and Isaac was forty years old when he married Rebekah daughter of Bethuel the Aramean from Paddan Aram and sister of Laban the Aramean.
Isaac prayed to the LORD on behalf of his wife, because she was barren. The LORD answered his prayer, and his wife Rebekah became pregnant. The babies jostled each other within her, and she said, “Why is this happening to me?” So she went to inquire of the LORD. The LORD said to her, ‘Two nations are in your womb, and two peoples from within you will be separated: one people will be stronger than the other, and the older will serve the younger.” Genesis 25:19-23
This is the account of Abraham’s son Isaac: After many years in marriage he and his wife struggled to have children. So Isaac took the matter to God and God answered his prayer and his wife Rebecca became pregnant.
In the midst of pregnancy, Rebecca discovered that something wasn’t right with her; therefore she took it to God in prayer, and God revealed to her the whole mystery about her pregnancy – “The LORD said to her, ‘Two nations are in your womb.”
In her delivery, Rebecca gave birth to two sons, namely, Jacob and Esau. Out of these two children who represent two nations according to God’s own words, one was chosen and named by God as His own nation to represent Him on earth. So in Jacob, God’s promise to His friend Abraham was fulfilled - “I will make of thee a great nation.” Genesis 12:2
Through Jacob, that promised nation was born. And the Almighty God who gave birth to that nation, also named her as Israel:
“And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day. And when he saw that he prevailed not against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh; and the hollow of Jacob’s thigh was out of joint, as he wrestled with him. And he said, let me go, for the day breaketh. And he said I will not let thee go, except thou bless me. And he said unto him, what is thy name? And he said, Jacob. And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed.” Genesis 32:24-28
Israel is the nation pre-ordained by God the Almighty to carry the burden of Salvation on her shoulders. “Salvation is of the Jews” said Jesus:
“The woman saith unto Him, Sir, I perceive that thou art a prophet. Our fathers worshipped in this mountain; and ye say, that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship. Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worships the father. Ye worship you know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews.” John 4:19-22
Salvation came out of Israel. She is the ‘Woman’ who conceived in her womb, ‘the saving WORD’ of God - Jesus Christ, our Lord, and delivered Him to the entire nations of the world.
Through Israel we have come to know both the written and the living word of God. We now know the true God and how to worship Him. She therefore deserves to be supported and helped by the nations of the earth. Her battle is our battle and her pain is our pain.
So the Almighty God who is her husband declares: “I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee.” Genesis 12:3a
Apart from given name to the nation, the Almighty God also gave her a land.
“And he dreamed and beholds a LADDER set up on the Earth, and the top of it reached up to Heaven and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it.”
‘And behold the Lord stood above it (the ladder) and said, I AM the Lord God of Abraham your father and the God of Isaac, the land on which you lie I will give to you and your descendants. Genesis 28:12-13
We shall see more of this woman when we come to study the vision of John in the book of Revelation chapter twelve. But before we do that, we are going to learn some biblical symbols and their meaning.
